Recovery and improvement with agroecological practices and biotechnology of savanna soils unsuitable for cultivation

Production of grains and food with high nutritional value and sustainable raw materials that replace petroleum derivatives

Strategic locations with conditions for optimal growth in crops and access to tax incentives to the reduction in operating costs

CROPS FOR THE FUTURE

Farming better to help ensure food security

CROPS FOR THE FUTURE is a program led by FLOGMA, to produce clean food and raw materials, capitalizing on the potential for agriculture of savanna ecosystems in tropical regions, aiming to transform savannas into a granary for the world, preventing deforestation for agriculture, creating thousands of jobs in vulnerable communities, as well as contributing to food security and nutrition for all.

The program includes the use of biotechnology and regenerative agriculture to remediate savanna soils unsuitable for agriculture, also building capacity to support the industry, with development of hybrids adapted to the tropics and global warming, manufacturing bio-inputs, production of seeds, cultivation of agroecological produced soybean, rice, hemp and sorghum in rotation, as well as developing infrastructure for the transformation of grains and biomass.

CROPS FOR THE FUTURE seeks to transfer knowledge, skills and technology to farmers in a contract farming model, guaranteeing fair trade of grains and by-products, also with the aim of implementing triple-impact ecosystem services and productive value chains with the communities, while protecting biodiversity.

WHEN FARMERS SUCCEED, EVERYONE WINS

At Crops for the Future, we create solutions that work within unique local climates and context, supporting farmers to increase their productivity to feed their families, nourish their communities, and protect our planet.

What we produce

Sustainable grains, food and raw materials

Meeting the global demand for grains, as well as for oil, protein and fiber of vegetable origin, likewise for sustainable raw materials to replace petroleum derivatives and fiber from other less efficient crops in their life cycle.

Creating a sustainable agriculture ecosystem

By 2050, the world is expected to add 3 billion more people who need access to quality and nutritious food. However, today, the UN estimates that there are already 800 million people who do not have access to enough food. We have the opportunity and the responsibility to help move humanity forward by working together in a multi-stakeholder environment to shape a food system that is better for farmers, consumers and the planet.

Most of the world’s suitable farmland is already being used, so we need to make better use of the land that we do have, while ensuring that we safeguard biodiversity and our natural resources. By improving the ability of farmers to produce a successful crop we are helping to ensure a consistent, nutritious and stable food supply for communities around the world.

Improving access to quality, nutritious foods

To build a healthier future for all, we need to think beyond simply increasing humanity’s access to calories, but also to improving access to enough quality and nutritious foods. We bring integrated and greatly expanded solutions that combine genetics, biotechnology and precision agriculture. We help farmers maximize the value of their investment through high-performing genetics and effective science-based solutions that optimize yield and crop quality.

Our crops are grown in living soil. A living, thriving ecosystem full of beneficial microbes, enzymes, and minerals. Our natural ingredients are sourced from all over Colombia. Our unique living soil delivers the perfect environment for our plant roots to thrive. The results are healthier, stronger and nutritious crops grown sustainably.

Boosting the potential of savannas for sustainable agriculture

Tropical savannas are found in many parts of the world, including Africa, Australia, South America, and Southeast Asia. The estimated global coverage of this ecosystem is approximately 4.9 billion hectares, with millions of hectares receiving reliable and abundant rainfall and sunshine, providing optimal conditions for farming.

Despite this potential, these lands are still for the greater part unused, its acid, lateritic and oxisol soils are characterized by a very low amount of exchangeable nutrient elements, very low content of weatherable minerals, and high aluminum saturation, making it difficult for crops to grow and resulting in poor yields. However, proper soil management practices have proven to be effective in the remediation of these soils, enabling excellent crop productivity and opening up new opportunities for sustainable agriculture.

Farming for the planet and people

The growing demand for products derived from soybeans, sorghum and hemp, such as human and animal food, vegetable proteins, and industrial products such as paper, textiles, biocomposites and biofuels, together with the optimal conditions for growth crops and the insufficient international supply of these raw materials, makes a highly profitable opportunity for farmers in the tropic region.

In addition to plant breeding production and transformation technologies, we also work with stakeholders across the entire food and supply chain. We foster partnerships with value chain actors, research centers, universities, and other institutions to strengthen sustainable farming development. This innovative collaboration model brings together farmers, food importers, processors, and retailers to work on tailored crop solutions that range from enhancing product quality and harvests to improving the traceability of food and raw materials.
